Yay! That’s right! Sling Media’s SingPlayer Mobile has been submitted to Apple for approval. And it should be available for download any time soon!
From Sing Media’s Website:
We’re been working hard to bring the SlingPlayer Mobile experience to the iPhone and iPod Touch. We’ve submitted the first release of our application to the iPhone App Store. In the mean time, take a sneak peek!
Sling Media demoed SlingPlayer Mobile For iPhone at Macworld in January. And Sling Media promised they were submitting this for approval in March and here we are, it’s March and It’s been submitted.

Installer app,

You may remember us telling you about InstallerApp a while ago, yeah? Well, RipDev finally released InstallerApp version 1.0 – In case you don’t know, InstallerApp is an application by RipDev (Developer of Installer.app) InstallerApp allows you to install unofficial 3rd party application to your iPhone via your desktop over a USB cable. Absolutely perfect for the people without a Wi-Fi connection.
InstallerApp can install software in two flavors — when you initially connect an iPhone, it will ask you to install some required components (that is mostly the Installer itself and its daemon, an application that will respond to InstallerApp requests on the USB). This can be installed on any iPhone, and if it was not jailbroken before, then it will not even open the system disk for writing — this to guarantee the security and integrity of your system.
If you wish to install software that uses APT/DPKG (probably most known on the iPhone world after the graphical front-end Cydia), then the system partition will have to be open for writing (most dpkg packages won’t work otherwise) — and yes, InstallerApp can do that too by downloading a special “ramdisk” that contains the open source components (such as dpkg, and some essential tools) and “pushing it” to the iPhone. We have rebuilt the components on our own as the ones packaged with other solutions were not built with all diligence and patience as they should have been.
InstallerApp is $7 and works for up to 3 devices. If you got more than 3 then you can buy more than one license!

Firmware 3.0,

One of the biggest changes to firmware 3.0 is the app name change from “Text” to “Messages”. The icon was also changed, now with a blank chat bubble where before it had the letters SMS. Of course SMS stands for Short Message Service, which is only texting, but now Messages send pictures, contacts & current location. The icon, along with a few others like the Phone and iPod icons, have a new style shading to them. See the icon at the beginning of this post to see what I mean.
Once open, the top of the app now says “Messages” instead of “Text Messages”. Otherwise there’s not much different on the main menu listing all of your messages. When creating a new text message you’ll notice a new little icon to the left of where you type that lets you add a picture. You can take a new one or use one from your camera roll. You’ll also see the sending progress bar has been moved to the top, only visible when sending, replacing the name at the top. In the top right there is an edit button. This lets you forward messages or delete individual or multiple messages. Of course, you can also copy text messages and paste in this app.

Hacks,

A developer has managed to hack his way into getting USB tethering to work on the recently release iPhone 3.0 beta – He claims he was “hacking around” with some carrier bundle files and iPhone 3.0 and somehow managed to activate the tethering preferences, that’s some epic iPhone Hacks! Not only is that epic but he was successful on tethering his iPhone 3G to his laptop! If you don’t know what tethering is, it’s a feature that allows you to share your iPhone’s internet connection with your laptop, but has not been allowed up until iPhone 3.0
Based on the images above, it appears you’ll not only have the options for USB Tethering but also bluetooth! Pretty awesome, eh? Sadly, the developer doesn’t know what he did exactly to enable this feature. Very sad, indeed. Apple had admitted tethering capabilities were built in into the iPhone 3.0 firmware but had not yet coordinated with mobile carriers. Very clever iPhone 3G Hacks and developer!

Firmware 3.0,
Software
I just started testing firmware 3.0 tonight and I thought I’d share what I’ve noticed so far. I upgraded straight from a jailbroken 2.2 firmware. First, a few things stuck around like my carrier logo. I used MakeItMine to change it from AT&T to ahhyeah and it stuck. Another weird thing is the battery percentage shows up near my battery level. I used to have a hack that made it switch to numbers when tapped on, but now it is next to it and it has a % sign that wasn’t there before. Another huge thing for me was the Emoji keyboard. I was sad I was going to have to go without it, but it stayed too.

All of my personal info stayed so I didn’t lose any messages, notes, etc. Speaking of Messages, that’s the new SMS/Text app, I can’t get MMS (picture messages) yet until I talk with AT&T. I can, however, rotate the entire app. I was thinking it would just be the keyboard but it’s actually the whole app.

There are a lot more sweet things to share but I’m gonna write each feature up as it’s own article. Let me know in the comments if there’s anything you have questions about.

Well I thought this was going to be big news. And, it’s a start… If you remember Customize you know what I’m talking about. But for those of you who don’t, here’s a little info. Customize lets you change all kinds of things on your iPhone or iPod Touch: sounds, system strings (like the Slide to Unlock text), icons, wallpaper, etc. There’s also a huge theme database within the app. It’s all very nice but tonight, it’s just not working for us. Very buggy, crashing our iPhones, not keeping changes, etc. We’ll keep testing it and watching for updates but I’d wait on this one for now.
Their site is also back up and running where you can upload your own themes from your computer that will show up in the list right on the app. Here’s a quote from the front page of their site:
Customize 2.2.1 (compatible with iPhone 2.2.1 firmware) is now available. You can download it here: http://customizeapp.com/uploads/release/Customize-2.2.1.zip.
It will also become available through Cydia Installer soon.
Best, Spicy

Firmware 3.0,
Iphone Dev,
Jailbreak
The Dev Team updated their blog recently to give us some information about unlocking and jailbreaking the 3.0 firmware. Below is what they have to say.
“With all of the great stuff lined up for us with the 3.0 OS that Apple described today, many 3G owners may find themselves with itchy update fingers. If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW. You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.
And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.”
