Sekai Camera – Cool camera app that does tagging on gps very well!

Sekai Camera is an iPhone application/service that allows you to place air tags and photos in any location around Japan – and soon the world when its launched worldwide.
Its currently available for a free download from the app store.

Here I have Sekai Camera booted up on my iPhone. It uses the GPS and compas in the iPhone 3GS to determine where the phone is and in which location the phone is pointing in.
As you can see from this photo, there are things floating about the screen and a radar type display at the top.

As I move the phone around, the tags and photos will scroll with the view until they disappear off the side of the screen. That’s because those tags and photos are tagged to a single location.

The video below in Akihabara gives you a good idea of how it works. In the video you will see tweets, photos and air tags floating about. In the video, you will see a load of green air tags with the name “??? ??” (Anegasaki Nene) – a character from Love Plus. A load of Nene fans went around spilling her name all over the place.

Here I am having lunch tagging my food. The tag will remain in this spot forever and can be seen by anybody else with an iPhone+Sekai Camera in the area.

If I click on a tweet or an air tag, I can see who left it there – their photo and profile. As you saw from the Sekai Camera vid in Akihabara above, air tag pollution is starting to happen with the area just full of tags.

We planned to do a hijack of a town leaving Mirai-chan’s image everywhere but not got round to it yet ^^;

I can see use cases where shops can leave food coupons floating outside their shop.
By looking at the world through Sekai Camera, not only can you see the normal stuff that you view with your upper set of eyes, you can also see a whole lot more information including landmarks.

When somebody clicks on a photo, tweet or air tag I left lying around, they would see my profile like this.

Another interesting thing about Sekai Camera is that you can “pocket” stuff. If I see a photo or air tag left by somebody, I can pocket it and view it later. Great for treasure hunting games.

GeoHot, the developer of the purplera1n jailbreak, has just added an entry to his blog and this is what it says;

“And prepare to meet the program that will jailbreak them all. ”

Yep, you got it, he apparently has found a jailbreak that will work with all iPhones and all iPod touches on the 3.1 firmware.

He also says, “no affiliation to greenpois0n. and it’s in some ways the complete opposite of purplera1n. but still 10 seconds. and may work for every version of software *ever*, based on the prettiness of the exploit”

We will keep our eye out for more info.

The jailbreak software will be released for download very soon…

Today, Apple released a new firmware update for the iPhone and iPod Touch. There’s a ton of new and improved features in this awesome new update. iPhone 3G S Jailbreak and Unlock Exploit Found!

Well, I know
many of you have been waiting for this news, so here it is: iPhone Dev
Team has found out that 24kpwn, the same exploit used to crack open
into the iPod Touch 2G, lives in the iPhone 3GS bootrom. That means the
iPhone Dev Team can apply the same technique that they use to jailbreak
and unlock on their current redsn0w tools. The baseband is also
exploitable with ultrasn0w. Awesome news, ey?

From iPhone Dev Team:

Important: Apple has not given up on the cat&mouse
game, and in fact there are challenging aspects of the 3GS jailbreak
that aren’t in the other devices. It’ll take some time to work these
into our tools, but the fundamental weaknesses are there: The bootrom
is exploitable via 24Kpwn, and the baseband is exploitable via
ultrasn0w. (And just like with the 3G, ultrasn0w for 3GS requires that
you not update your baseband when Apple comes out with new firmware.)

Multi-Core ARM Chips For iPhone Due in 2010

Cnet reports that ARM will be delivering multi-core ARM chips in 2010, making multi-core iPhones and other smart phones possible.

“You’ll definitely see handsets shipping with a dual-core A9 in 2010,” James Bruce, wireless segment manager for ARM, said in a phone interview earlier this week, referring to the next-generation Cortex-A9 processor from ARM.

The current iPhone is believed to use the ARM Cortex A8 processor. While still a notable improvement over the previous generation ARM chips, it remains a single core device. The move to a dual-core ARM chip will be a (hopefully) huge upgrade in performance and is expected to happen relatively quickly and should be seen in about a year, perhaps in the iPhone 3G ES (Extreme Speed).

An ARM representative reassured CNet that the dual-core ARM A9 is actually more power efficient than the A8.

“What we’ve done on the A9 is actually make it more power efficient than the A8. The dual-core A9 will be coming out on 45-nanometer rather than the (current) 65-nanometer process,” Bruce said. Generally, the smaller the geometries, the faster and more power-efficient the processor is.
Bruce continued. “With the dual-core running at maximum load there’s probably going to be an increase of about 10 to 20 percent in power consumption but in general day to day use you’re actually going to see better battery life.”
