iTunes 9 to Include Blu-ray Support and iPhone App Organizer

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Announcements, Apple, Downloads, News, Software, iTunes

Boy Genius Report received a tip from what they claim to be a pretty good reliable source suggesting that iTunes 9 will have several new features. The rumored features include support for Blu-ray media and visual organization of iPhone and iPod touch applications within iTunes, as well as some form of social networking/media integration. I’m sure many people are really hoping for Twitter integration.

One of the new additions to iTunes is said to include Blu-ray support which lines up nicely with a recent Apple Insider report about Apple integrating Blu-ray into their new iMac line-up. Something else that will most likely make a bunch of people happy is that we’ve been told iTunes 9 will finally include the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone and iPod touch applications. Something that wasn’t so clearly described was some kind of Twitter/Facebook/Last.fm integration. Maybe broadcasting what song you’re playing to your friends?

Personally, I would very much love integrated Last.fm scrobbling. No timeframe for iTunes 9 was suggested by BGR’s source, however, Apple holds special events in September to update its iPod line and to update iTunes, so it’s reasonable to speculate that iTunes 9 may be unveiled at that time. Stay tuned for updates!

BargainBin – Push Notifications For App Price Changes

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Announcements, Apple, Appstore, Downloads, News, Software, Videos

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

BargainBinYou
are going to love this application! It allows you to create a custom
list of apps and get push notifications of price changes. So, if you
have an app you’ve always wanted but would only pay $0.99 for it, just
search for the app, add it to the list, and set the price. If the
prices ever changes to your price, the app will send you an push
notification. This also works for when apps become free. AWESOME!

Now that’s not all. This app lets you browse apps via category and
sort them by recent price changes (bargin), popularity or free. For
example, I went into the photography category and found all the sweet
apps and added them to my list for when they become free. Now whenever
they become free I’ll get a push notification. Other sweet features
included app screenshots, descriptions, & a direct link to App
Store.

Possible Leaked Photos of Upcoming iPhone?

Author: dexxter  //  Category: 4g Iphone, Announcements, Apple, News

The latest of these images come from italian
site SpazioCellulare, and they look very convincing. The images appear
to reflect many circulating rumors but as such it maybe a very good
mockup.

There appears to be an extra button on the lower-side of the case,
perhaps a camera button and shutter button? The headphone jack for the
iPhone appears to have moved down to the bottom of the unit. It also
doesn’t seem to have the roundness that the iPhone 3G has. With any
rumor, we aren’t confident that these images are 100% legit but they
serve as interesting speculation.

There’s only about 3 days till WWDC on June 8th, stay tuned!

Apple Launches U.S. Back-to-School Promo

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Announcements, Apple, News

Apple has announced its launch of annual Back
to School promo for U.S. education customers. This year, Apple Back To
School promo is offering a rebate of up to $229 on the full line of
iPods when purchased with a qualifying new Apple computer, which
includes all Macs except the Mac mini. Free iPod Touch anyone?

Both the Mac and iPod must be purchased at the same time on the same
receipt, and purchases must be made either directly from Apple or at an
Apple Authorized Campus Store. This year’s program runs through
September 8th, 2009.

Sadly, they don’t offer a rebate for an iPhone but perhaps next year.

Luckily for our fellow Canadian neighbours readers, Apple is currently
running a similar program in Canada and typically offers such programs
in a number of other countries later in the year.

Next Generation iPhone Details Leaked?

Author: dexxter  //  Category: 4g Iphone, Announcements, Apple, News

A Chinese Forum poster has posted details on what could be the new iPhone that may be released this June. The details are quite plausible, and hopefully they’re true. The iPhone model is apparently “MB717LL” and sports a whopping 32GB of storage, yay!

The poster claims the next gen iPhone will feature the following:

  • 600MHz CPU Speed (up from 400MHz)
  • 256MB RAM (up from 128MB)
  • Digital Compass and FM
  • 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus
  • 32GB size
  • No major changes in battery, screen and external casing.

No major changes in the battery could mean absolutely horrible battery life, especially with that faster CPU, digital compass, FM and an auto focus camera. This could spell danger for Apple if they don’t improve the battery life on the iPhone, and lets hope they improve it.

Apparently, the person that originally posted the details has no track record of being accurate on rumors, so don’t get to too excited. However, the information seems very plausible so perhaps, there is a reason to get excited.

Stay tuned!

Adobe and Apple Working to Put Flash on iPhone—Someday [Flash]

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Announcements, Apple, Flash, News

Adobe’s
CEO told a World Economic Forum crowd that Apple and his company are
working to bring Flash to the iPhone. Unanswered is when that happens,
and in what form.

The Boy Genius Report blog takes a largely positive tack on Shantanu Narayen’s remarks,
but wisely wonders whether Flash will arrive as a standard in-browser
function for mobile Safari, or as a stand-alone app made for browsing
specific sites. PCWorld offers a more downbeat take,
noting the technical hurdles—processor, memory, and Apple’s needs for
access rights restrictions—and a sense of “boardroom wrangling.”

Most
would imagine that Flash on the iPhone is a matter of when, not
if—especially if Flash succeeds in pushing its Flash Lite platform onto
Windows Mobile and Android phones. But let’s hear your take—do you
enjoy having the web stripped of flashing, shiny doodads while you’re
mobile, or does a lack of Flash cripple your browsing life? Tell us in
the comments.

Steve Wozniak Talks About Steve Jobs’ Health

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Announcements, Apple, News, Videos

In a conversation with NBC
about Steve Jobs’ leave from Apple, co-founder Steve Wozniak said this
break could be exactly what Steve — and Apple — needs. Woz had some
great things to say, and my favorite was his answer to the question,
“If Steve [Jobs] were not at Apple, would the company be as able to
produce the kind of products we’ve seen?” Woz’s answer:

“Way too
hypothetical. I would never venture a guess … obviously, Steve’s very
important but Apple has some incredible people, followers of the Apple
mentality, followers of Steve himself.”

In other words (if I may
paraphrase you, Woz), Steve isn’t Apple and Apple isn’t Steve. No
matter what happens, the company will be fine. Good call.

A bit of the audio from the Woz interview was played on last night’s talkcast, along with your voicemail wishes for Steve Jobs’ improved health. Mike assures me he’ll have the show up and online tonight.
