Firmware 2.2 Feature – Screenshots of Lock Screen

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Announcements, Firmware 2.2, Software, Tips

Apple
I’m sure many of you keep finding new features of firmware 2.2 as you
use it more and more. There are actually quite a few nice new features!
One feature that was brought to my attention is that you can now take
screenshots of the lock screen with firmware 2.2! You could already
take a screenshots of your iPhone or iPod Touch’s screen by hitting the
Lock button and the Home button at the same time. However, this feature
did not work smoothly on the lock screen. Well, it seems Apple has
taken pity on us and made this feature work on the lock screen as well.
Which means, no more trying to trick your lock screen into getting a
screenshot or using lengthy processes to get a screenshot of your lock
screen.

This is a very exciting news for me….I actually wouldn’t have even
realized this if I wouldn’t have received an email about it from a
viewer (thanks for the tip Patrick!). I was still doing it the old school way…signing into my iPhone via mobile. Happy screenshot taking!

iPhone 2.2 Gets Street View, More Features

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Announcements, Firmware 2.2, Software

The developer-only iPhone 2.2 software sounds promising so far, boasting hidden features like Google Street View, auto-correction toggle, and emoji icons. It better be good, considering Apple is already breaking promises, having missed the September deadline for push notification.

firmware 2.2 coming soon!

The new iPhone 2.2 Firmware debuted today(to developers only). While
I like the idea of having quicker access to Google in my iPhone
browser. . .I can only imagine how much Apple will rake in from this
tiny change alone. I’m curious to see how easy it is to touch the
refresh button too.

iphone 2.2 new feature “Deleting that App? Please Rate It!”

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Firmware 2.2, News

We’ve already reported
on iPhone OS 2.2 enhancements, which include Google Street View, Bus
Schedules, viewing walking and transit directions instead of driving
directions, and the ability to share locations with other users.

Now a Greek language website, iPhone Hellas,
is reporting that when a user decided to delete an App from their
iPhone running OS version 2.2 an application popup window is displayed
asking them for feedback about the App they are deleting. The user is
presented with the familiar five star iPod rating system and a “No
Thanks” button. Uses can swipe their fingers to select from none to
five stars pressing the “Rate” button to send your rating while the
other button opts you out of the rating system.

Softbank Plans to Bring Live TV to iPhone Users in Japan via $100 TV-Tuner Card

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Accessories, Firmware 2.2, Hardware, Iphone, News

Softbank has announced that it will be
selling a TV-Tuner card add-on for iPhone 3G later this year to address
a widely-publicized feature omission for iPhone users in Japan.

The add-on TV-Tuner card will also serve as an extended battery pack for the iPhone.

Softbank to sell TV-Tuner card add-on for the iPhone

There have been reports that though Apple’s iPhone 3G has been a
runaway success in the US and other parts of the world which is evident
from the record breaking 6.9 million iPhones sold last quarter, its not doing too well in Japan.

This has been attributed to lack of features that are familiar with
Japanese customers such as ability to watch live TV, Emoji icons
(Japanese name for the picture characters or emoticons used in
messages) etc.

iPhone firmware 2.2 beta 1
that has been seeded to iPhone developers has already revealed that Apple is planning to include support for Japanese Emoji icons in iPhone firmware 2.2.

By selling a TV-Tuner card add-on, Softbank is trying to address
another widely-publicized feature omission for iPhone users in Japan.

The add-on card is expected to retail for $100. It will include an internal Wi-Fi module and an external antenna for tuning into 1seg
mobile broadcasting service available in Japan. The add-on card, which
will also serve as an extended battery pack, will stream live
television to the iPhone over Wi-Fi through an iPhone-app that will be
available for free on the App Store.

The TV-Tuner card add-on is expected to be slightly more compact
than the iPhone but a bit thicker and lighter at about 2.8 ounces and
measures approximately 2.0 x 3.5 x 0.6 inches.

Softbank and Apple are hoping that addressing these two feature omissions will help boost iPhone 3G sales. However, it remains to be seen if iPhone users in Japan would like to carry another device with the iPhone.

Apple might want to also consider bringing flash to the iPhone as Business Week
had reported in August that users in Japan were complaining that the
iPhone is incompatible with the features of many Japanese Web sites
because it lacks Adobe’s Flash animation software.

You might remember that Paul Betlem, Sr. Director of Engineering at Adobe Systems, had confirmed that Adobe was indeed developing a Flash Player for the iPhone but had noted that it depended on Apple’s approval.
