DownBB, lets you do just what the title of this post suggests. Lets you downgrade your baseband from 2.30.03 to 02.28.00. 2.30.03 broke the hole needed to successfully run yellowsn0w, iPhone Dev Team clearly warned against updating to firmware 2.2.1 without preserving the baseband of 2.2 or previous firmwares with the world famous PwnageTool
It’s really easy to downgrade your baseband, you can do it right within Cydia with DownBB!
- Fire up Cydia
- Install iClarified source from Sources section or http://cydia.iclarified.com/
- Refresh sources, if needed
- Tap Sections and Scroll to iClarified and tap
- Find DownBB and Install
- Confirm you want to Install. Cydia will do the rest

Well I thought this was going to be big news. And, it’s a start… If you remember Customize you know what I’m talking about. But for those of you who don’t, here’s a little info. Customize lets you change all kinds of things on your iPhone or iPod Touch: sounds, system strings (like the Slide to Unlock text), icons, wallpaper, etc. There’s also a huge theme database within the app. It’s all very nice but tonight, it’s just not working for us. Very buggy, crashing our iPhones, not keeping changes, etc. We’ll keep testing it and watching for updates but I’d wait on this one for now.
Their site is also back up and running where you can upload your own themes from your computer that will show up in the list right on the app. Here’s a quote from the front page of their site:
Customize 2.2.1 (compatible with iPhone 2.2.1 firmware) is now available. You can download it here: http://customizeapp.com/uploads/release/Customize-2.2.1.zip.
It will also become available through Cydia Installer soon.

I am sure you guys find it a pain that the new baseband blocks yellowsn0w! But heres a custom firmware for those who wants 2.2.1 on the iphone…note that it doesnt work for those who have already updated to 2.2.1…this are for users who haven upgraded their firmware with baseband 2.28.
Those of you who want iPhone 3G 2.2.1 firmware with 2.28 Baseband and Cydia, download both the files below and join them using hj split.This works both on Windows and Mac. 2.2.1 may not be an important upgrade but it definitely puts and end to accidental upgrades to 2.30 baseband.
- Please make sure your iPhone 3G is already pwned (you should have Cydia installed!).
- Launch iTunes (Windows or Mac) and restore your iPhone to the downloaded Custom Firmware. (Hold Shift key (Windows) / Opt key (Mac) whle hitting the restore button in iTunes. This is super important).
- yellowsn0w repository is already added. Install yellowsn0w from packages in Cydia and you are good to go!

from the dev team. Here’s the official word on what was updated. Looks
like mostly bug fixes…
iPhone 2.2.1 Software Update
This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
• Improved general stability of Safari
• Fixed issue where some images saved from Mail do not display correctly in the Camera Roll

I did have a picture get all blurry after downloading it from the
Mail App this moring. Let us know if you see any changes not mentioned
